Staff assessments now underway. For last couple of years, we have been doing these every six months but this time am seriously reflecting that once a year is going to be more appropriate for a firm of our size. The work involved is just mammoth; conferring with each department head, writing, carrying out and writing up afterwards – not to mention the one or two that every time come back and complain about theirs and have to be done all over again.
One of our core values, however, is accountability and if anything the last six months has taught me, it is that this is absolutely paramount. If not all staff are able to be naturally accountable for their actions, at the very least, the management must ensure they are.
We are now starting to carry out brief weekly management meetings rather than the longer monthly ones, during which we are looking at any complaint, internal or external and any problem – however minor. No longer will any member of staff fly by under the radar, with management frustratingly feeling that something needs doing about that or them. From now on, scrutiny will be constant, praise immediate and constructive criticism equally so. Should the latter not work, those unable to step up will be parted with. I am a great fan of the “inspire or fire” phrase and at long last we have the frame work to put it into fairly instant practice.
I am astonished to be familiar with how much of resources I obtained on this topic. I'm so especially thankful of you. One thing I could say that, after browsing this article I obtained stored from the entire worthless search I ought to have made on this subject. Your write-up is a true great thing in disguise.
