Am horribly aware that son and heir is off from Oz to Bangkok, where 21 died over the weekend as politic protests erupted into violence. See MSN reports happily that the tourist area was affected so make instant vow to stay off news for next few weeks. Son and heir himself hadn’t exactly helped matters with dopey phone call prior to departure announcing that he still hadn’t obtained VISA for China, where he is due to progress to thereafter, and that he might get arrested at the border. Also appears to think that internet hasn’t hit Asia yet and therefore happily announces not to expect to hear from him for next month or so. How they are sent to try us!
Meanwhile, have lost track if it is third or fourth week where I have had to concentrate virtually solely on troublesome personnel and or recruitment. Had been letting staff select for shop floor from short listed CV’s but think in future am going to do all recruiting myself as I can already see one error having been made. We had two non starters and another shop floor hire lasted 10 minutes prior to deciding it wasn’t for him. One of unit managers on holiday this week, so thankfully 2nd. will have to be out on shop floor most of the time and really get to crack on with working with new intake and seeing what they are made of. Need to bring them on through the ranks pronto to fill less than satisfactory slots and gaps.
In the offices, feel dead confident about new person for accounts role – it would be brilliant if we could get someone to stay long term in this. Have found someone part qualified so hopefully in future we could look at a training deal of mutual benefit. Sales office still short staffed and in chaos. Have seen one really good applicant who I was hugely impressed with so wait to hear with fingers crossed. Cannot believe how one successful fully staffed office can have turned into such a nightmare under care of HR specialist while I have been standing back.
There is a strong view that holds that success is a myth, and ambition therefore a sham. Does this mean that success does not really exist? That achievement is at bottom empty?
